Make Up for Eyes

Eye Shadow
  • On days when you are really pressed for time, apply the base color to the eye then skip to mascara and you’re done.

  • When applying eye shadow to the crease of the eye, keep your eyes open and slightly tilt your head backward. This will enable you to better see the shape you are creating and allowing the shadow to go into the crease.

  • For more mature skin use iridescent shades sparingly.

  • If you have puffy eyelids do not use iridescent or frosted shadows in light colors or white. Use softer, matte colors.

Mascara
  • If your mascara is new and the deposit on the wand is plentiful, tissue off the wand before applying to prevent smudging.

  • To get more product on the mascara brush try twirling the brush. Pumping it will cause the product to dry out sooner.

  • Try experimenting with different colors of mascara – maybe brown, navy or green.

  • Always use less mascara on your lower lashes.

  • If your mascara thickens when it reaches the end of tube, place the tube in warm water. This will help to make mascara thinner. Never add water to the tube; bacteria can form.

Eyeliner
  • When using an eye pencil, open your mouth slightly to relax the eye muscles. It will make lining a lot easier without having to pull or tug at your lid.

  • Apply eyeliner as close as possible and even into the lashes to avoid the white line you sometimes get when liner and lashes don’t connect.

  • DO NOT put on mounds of eyeliner because you will look like a raccoon about three hours later.

Eyebrows
  • Always use a brow color that is as natural looking as possible. The main objective is to define not create over-powering brows. To fill in, comb first, then use feather like strokes with your pencil to fill in. To create a more natural look, comb again after applying the pencil.

  • When using a brow definer or brush on brow, the same method is used. Comb, apply with a brush and then comb again.

  • When using powdered brow color, use a harder bristled angle brow brush and draw tiny hair-like strokes. When using a brow pencil, maintain a sharp edge and use the same technique as the brush. You may use a disposable mascara wand to soften. The trick is comb, apply, comb.

  • If your brows are low or close to the eyes, bleaching them can “open up” the face. This is a practice of the world's best makeup artists.

  • DO NOT overpluck your eyebrows so that instead of filling in tiny spots, you will be drawing a whole eyebrow that can smudge and look very fake.

Finding the Right Foundation

One of the first makeup tips you should observe is the importance of finding the the right foundation. It could be the difference between looking as if you have naturally flawless skin or as if you are wearing a mask.
Most women have yellow-based skin. They include most Caucasians and all Asian, Latin and African women. To get that perfectly natural, flawless look they need to wear foundations with a yellow base.
Most foundations on the market however have pink or orange tones. Women wearing these foundations often end up looking artificial, ashy and two-toned.

We also manufacture maximum coverage camouflage foundations. It has awesome coverage, great staying power and is very natural-looking.
After getting your foundation right, the next step is to follow the makeup tips we have provided for you. With a little practice, you will be amazed how easy it is for you to learn to apply your makeup as professional makeup artists.

Bad Skin Habits

Six Skin Habits You Should Unlearn for 2012

Here’s six of the most common habits I hear, and ones that should be broken to ensure your skin is healthy, balanced and glowing.

1) Tugging at the delicate eye area.
The eye area is the thinnest skin of any area on the face, and it’s the first to show the signs of aging, so when people pull on the skin when they put in their contacts, apply eyeliner, or rub aggressively on the area when removing stubborn eye makeup, this can unnecessarily create wear and tear on the collagen and elasticity fibers within the skin. These habits may cause visible lines and wrinkles prematurely, so be sure to treat this delicate area with care.

2) Misting, not wiping, your skin when using toner.
While I understand a lot of people have gotten in the habit of misting toner on the skin because of the convenience, it is really important to use a wiping action while using toner. The reason is because toners are designed to remove cleanser residue and (most importantly) salts, chlorines, and chemicals from tap water that may dehydrate the skin. So when you mist the toner, you are simply diluting these chemicals, not removing them. Always use an alcohol-free toner, wipe it over the skin with our Toning Cloths, and if you so choose, mist afterwards.

3) Over-using your Clarisonic brush.
In a previous Temptalia post called Skin Care Expert, Renée Rouleau Reviews the Clarisonic, I share my thoughts on how many people may be over-using the Clarisonic brush and being more harmful than helpful to the skin. The company suggests you use it twice a day, every day but I personally feel this is way too much for most types of skin to handle, especially if you’re using other exfoliating products such as acids, scrubs and enzymes. Just like you shouldn’t use a facial scrub twice a day, you also shouldn’t use the Clarisonic twice a day. It should be reserved to 2-3 times a week.

4) Not washing your skin in the morning.
Many people have gotten in the habit of not washing the skin in the morning, because the skin is already clean from washing the night before and no makeup was worn. The reason it is important to wash your face in the morning is because while you are sleeping, the skin is in repair mode and will secrete toxins and sebum, which can prevent your daytime products from working effectively. When you wash your skin in the morning, you are removing not only the toxins and sebum, but your nighttime products as well – this allows your daytime products (particularly our Daily Protection SPF 30) to absorb into the skin better since they will have a clean slate. Be sure to wash with a mild, sulfate-free cleansing gel in the morning.(And of course, washing your skin every night is a must!)

5) Using the same products year-round.
Without a doubt, your skin has different needs in summer and winter, but even in fall and spring. In summer, the focus should be on protecting your skin from the sun with sunscreen and antioxidants, which have powerful protective qualities. Products should be lighter-weight in the summer, since there is more humidity in air. A summer skin care routine should have less exfoliation since more time is spent outdoors. During the fall, you can increase your exfoliation to repair the skin from the summer sun. With the dry air in winter, it is about increasing moisturization with more hydrating products. In spring, it is time to do a spring cleaning with deep pore cleansing products. So getting in the habit of using the same products year-round is an absolute no-no.

6) Picking at your skin.
Many are guilty of this one, but they are in the habit of automatically picking at a blemish the minute it appears. Whether it is out of nerves or simply trying to make a blemish go away faster, you really do end up making it worse. The truth of the matter is, a blemish only lasts 5-7 days, but the redder, dark scar can linger for months. Did your blemish leave you with a dark or red scar? Use Post-Breakout Fading Gel. To keep your hands busy and off of your face, try our No Picking! Twisty Toy.

So if you are stuck in any of these habits, follow these skin care tips to break free and be well on your way to healthy, glowing and beautiful skin in 2012.

How to Look Polished and Professional at Work

Today Fiona of Jolie Laide Girl shares a few tips to look made up and marvelous at the office.

One challenge many young women face is choosing the right makeup for a corporate environment. Looking competent and professional is incredibly important. Although that might mean putting down the glittery eyeliner, it doesn’t have to mean bare-faced beauty. Studies have shown that women who wear make-up to work are more likely to get promoted. The trick is finding a look that enhances your natural beauty.
For most people, a striking look isn’t usually the way to go, but please don’t take that to mean that standing out in the workplace is always a bad strategy. Some of the most succesful women I know made an effort to stand out with their appearance, whether that be with bright lips or their choice of dress. However, smoky eyes in the workplace are generally considered a no-no. They either look too sultry or like you didn’t remove last night’s make-up. Either way, it doesn’t spell promote me!

Here are a couple of ground rules for a workplace safe look:
  1. It has to stand the test of time; you don’t want to have to keep retouching your look when you have to dash from meeting to meeting.
  2. It has to be low-maintenance and easy enough for you to be able to complete in a rush. Some people might be prepared to spend 30 minutes doing their face in the mornings, but I’d rather spend an extra 20 minutes in bed and 10 minutes doing my face.
  3. It should enhance, and not hide who you are.
  4. It shouldn’t be distracting; remember, you want people to be listening to what you’re saying without being mesmerized by your hot pink lipgloss.
  5. It should make you feel both comfortable and amazing. If you’re busy stressing about your eyeliner, how can you hope to concentrate on that spreadsheet?!
So, what are some products you can use to look gorgeous at the office?

Eyes

Well, since you want your make-up to stand the test of time, start with a good base. For eyes, there are a number of excellent product.nFoundations and concealers are next on the eye list, and make sure your base isn’t too thick or pasty. I adore dewy skin where it’s appropriate, but it does tend to get shiny, and shiny doesn’t say cool under pressure. Matte is the way to go here. I dust my face with powder to matte down and carry blotting papers for lunchtime touchups.

Eye colors are up next, and I have a couple of work safe looks I rotate. Basically, they’re all about subtlety, rather than showing off your amazing blending skills. I know, I’m sorry — colors that make you look wide awake are great as well. Oh, and I might have hinted at this before, but I’ll say it now: glittery colors are a big no-no. Keep them for the weekends, girlies. I have green eyes, and I love colors like taupes, bronzes, browns, and greys.

I have a few standard looks: a light taupe on the lid with a bronze on the crease; a light taupe on the lid with grey on the crease; or an all-over beige with a sweep of brown liquid liner. Highlighting is still important, but keep it subtle! Eyeliner on the outer third of my eye makes me look better, too, but in browns and greys; never black, as it’s too strong.

Mascara obviously has to happen, and the big thing for me is making sure that it will last a long time. Sometimes, with the AC in the office and from staring at a computer screen, my eyes will get dry, so I’ll rub them. When I do, I don’t want my mascara to give me panda eyes.

Next, eyebrows are another of the best ways to show off what a professional chica you really are because they frame your face. Keeping them neat and tidy is well worthwhile. Don’t overpluck either, girls. Strong brows are a gorgeous look. I’ll either fill mine in with powder and use a wax to set, or I’ll use a tinted brow gel like Anastasia. If I’m in a rush, a touch of clear brow gel does the trick. Bonus: it’s completely idiot proof.

Cheeks

Blush should enhance your lovely face, and while I adore a gorgeous and rosy, just-out-of-the-cold glow, I’m more looking for something to add a touch of color when I’m at work. Be careful about using anything too shimmery, but a touch of shimmer looks nice under fluorescent lights that bounce off your cheekbones.
My tip? Use something sheer in which color can be built upon. It helps avoid any early morning blush disasters

Lips

With lip color, you have a little bit more freedom to express yourself than you do at work with eye colors, as long as they aren’t too distracting. Personally, I love pinky nudes and a matte look for Mad Men-style sophistication.

Preparation is always important. Most of the time, I’ll prepare my weekday looks on Sunday nights, so I don’t spend time deciding what to wear or rummaging through my drawers looking for a particular color right before work. In my look bag I’ll have 4 shadows, a couple of lipsticks and glosses, a blush, my base, and mascara. That saves me at least another 5 minutes in the mornings (more time in bed!).
